IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people believe that it is best to accept a bad situation, such as an unsatisfactory job or shortage of money. Others argue that it is better to try and improve such situations.
Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some individuals accept a bad situation such as an unsatisfactory job or shortage of money. Others think and try to improve such situations. In my view, accepting bad situation gives relief to the mind. However, It is important to accept and work on the bad situations.
On the one hand, accepting the bad situations calms and give relaxation to the mind. It eases the situation for a time being. As a result, it releases stress and anxiety. Individuals can take small steps lsuch as saving some amount of money and reducing their expenses. To give an example, if a person is working in a company and doesn't likes their job. They should not leave it especially if they are supporting their family, if they leave their job they will incur financial crises. Which will lead them into worse situation.
On the other hand, it is good to accept the bad situation but one should work on it. Sitting in that situation and doing nothing will not change anything. As a result, one should work hard to get out of that situation by developing new skills or switching to a better job. This will also improve their financial situation. To quote an example, if a person is working, they can improve their skills by doing some online courses and enhance their skills. They can also try to switch their jobs.
In my opinion, I would support the second view as everyone should work hard and achieve their goals. Sitting ideal and waiting for the situation to get better can not change anything, it will get worse.
In conclusion, people should learn new skills by enrolling themselves in courses or programs which will show improvement and enhance their knowledge. They can also look for better jobs and they should keep on trying outside from their comfort zone.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both views and give a clear personal position: you first explain how acceptance can reduce stress, then argue that people should take steps to improve their circumstances. The examples about keeping a job while supporting a family and gaining skills through online courses are relevant. However, the discussion is uneven: the benefits of acceptance are explained mainly as temporary relief, while the reasons for actively improving a situation receive more attention. The opening also combines acceptance with working to change things, so your position is not fully clear until later. To strengthen the response, explain more precisely when acceptance is sensible and how it can coexist with practical efforts to improve a situation. (14 words copied from the task prompt were not counted.)
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a coherent overall arrangement, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, your opinion, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” helps readers follow the discussion. Some connections, however, feel mechanical or unclear. For example, “As a result” is used to introduce consequences in several paragraphs, and the opening’s contrast between accepting a situation and working on it is difficult to follow. The example about leaving a job also runs into a sentence fragment beginning “Which will lead them…”. Use a wider range of linking methods and make each example’s relationship to the main point explicit to improve progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use adequate vocabulary to discuss employment, finances, and personal development, including “financial situation,” “developing new skills,” and “stress and anxiety.” These choices make the main ideas clear, and there are attempts at more specific language. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or repetitive, such as “accepting the bad situations,” “incur financial crises,” and “sitting ideal.” “Improve” and “skills” also recur several times, limiting variety. Spelling and word-form slips such as “lsuch” and “doesn't likes” further reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural phrasing and precise alternatives—for example, “face financial hardship” and “remain passive”—and check spelling and word forms carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex forms, including conditional structures such as “if a person is working…” and clauses introduced by “as a result.” Most of the message remains understandable, but some errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence boundaries are noticeable. Examples include “accepting the bad situations calms and give,” “doesn't likes,” and “accepting bad situation.” The sentence beginning “Which will lead them…” is a fragment, while the job example also joins several clauses with commas. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and articles, and divide long sentences into complete, clearly punctuated units. More accurate control of these structures would make your argument easier to read.
