IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some people believe that it is best to accept a bad situation, such as an unsatisfactory job or shortage of money. Others argue that it is better to try and improve such situations.

Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Student answer (Band 5.0)

In times of bad situations different people have different opinions about the situation

When it is about situations such as an unsatisfied job or in money shortage few people have thoughts such as to accept that bad situation and move forward and other people opiniated to better and improve the situation

In my personal opinion both the views are to take into consideration in such a way that instead of having excessive thoughts about unsatisfactory life or job or money it is the best possible way to accept the situation and move on in life.

when we accept the situation and moved on from the place of such thought weay find it peacefull in life.

In other side of the situation i had thoughts that when the situation is overcomed and tried our best to change the script the next possible turnover would very beautiful in the life

Evey human being have aspirations to lift from one stage of life to another stage of life

such kind things only possible with aspirantional actions in life

In my opinion in every possible way of life every one should have to dream for much complex life to grow

so in the context of dreaming for the bigger things we need tp take risky steps to improve our situation in life without such risk maynot get chance to improve our life

But the other of the script about losing when taking such risks we should be cautious about potential losses and forward in life

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You address both views and state a personal position, especially when you say people may accept a difficult situation for peace of mind but should also take risks to improve their lives. This is relevant to the question. However, the discussion is only partial: the reasons for accepting a bad situation are briefly mentioned, and the case for trying to improve it is mostly expressed through general statements about aspirations and risk. There is little explanation of when one approach might be preferable or any concrete example to support the ideas. Your position also shifts between recommending acceptance and urging people to pursue change, so the relationship between these views needs clarification. Develop each side with a reason and an example, then state a consistent conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a basic sequence: it introduces the two opinions, gives a personal view, and then considers acceptance and change. This gives the reader some sense of the essay’s direction. However, progression is difficult to follow because ideas are presented in short, loosely connected paragraphs, and several points repeat the idea of improving one’s life without showing how they build on one another. Linking phrases such as “In other side” and “But the other of the script” do not clearly signal the relationship between ideas. Paragraphing is also inconsistent, with some related statements separated and no clear concluding paragraph. Organise the essay into an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion, using accurate transitions and clear references.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “unsatisfactory job,” “accept the situation,” “potential losses,” and “risky steps.” These choices show an attempt to discuss both security and change. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning unclear. For example, “few people have thoughts” is not a natural way to describe people’s opinions, while “the next possible turnover would very beautiful” does not communicate a clear idea. There are also spelling and word-form errors, including “opiniated,” “Evey,” and “aspirantional.” Build a more precise set of expressions for discussing financial hardship, job dissatisfaction, and the consequences of taking risks, and check spelling and collocations carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including a conditional idea in “when the situation is overcomed and tried our best to change the script.” However, the range is limited, and attempts to form complex sentences are often faulty. Errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction occur throughout: “when we accept the situation and moved on” shifts tense, and “every human being have aspirations” has incorrect subject–verb agreement. Some sentences lack a clear grammatical structure, making the intended meaning difficult to follow. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, particularly at sentence beginnings. Practise building accurate sentences with one main clause and a supporting clause, then check tense consistency and subject–verb agreement before adding more complex structures.
