Student answer (Band 6.0)

Tragedies play an essential role in individuals'life. It is often argued that when there is a bad situation, people really need to accept the reality because some rewards are not for them. Others argue that people should put their efforts and try to alleviate the problems. In my view, I believe instead of quitting , we should work hard and try to improve the problems.

On the one hand, many individuals really work hard to excel in their fields. No matter, how much they try, they do not achieve their goals. This is because some problems and difficulties are in the destiny and these hardships are written for them. So instead of creating a drama, individuals should calm their mind and try to accept it. For instance, when some people are working in the environment that they do not like, so instead of complaining about it every time, they really need to accept the situation.

Conversely, individuals argue that problems are the part of life and when they feel something is not happening according to their desires and they are struck in a bad situation, they should try to alleviate the problem. Because sometimes many difficulties are test from destiny and they demand patience and our work hard. For instance, various students fail in the entry test of tertiary education, but in the next year, when they put all their efforts they usually their goals. I believe that we should try to improve the situations because it is possible that we get our reward.

In conclusion, some individuals believe that they should accept the situation because it is part of destiny and I argue that we should give our best in difficult time to win the situation.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You discuss both positions and make your own view clear: you argue that people should work to improve difficult circumstances rather than give up. The examples of an unsatisfactory workplace and students retaking an entrance test are relevant to the prompt. However, the two views are not developed equally clearly. The first paragraph relies heavily on the idea of destiny, while the second introduces the idea of difficulties as a test but does not explain how this supports either acceptance or action. The student example also needs a clearer outcome and explanation. To strengthen the response, explain the practical reasons someone might accept an unchangeable situation, then develop why effort can improve circumstances, using more precise supporting details.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Signposts such as “On the one hand,” “Conversely,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the discussion, and your opinion is stated in both the opening and closing. This meets the lower-band expectations securely, with some evidence of more flexible organisation. However, progression within paragraphs is less smooth: the shift from destiny to accepting an unwanted job, and from difficulties as a test to the student example, needs clearer links. Some transitions feel mechanical, and “Because sometimes…” is left as a sentence fragment. Use linking phrases to show cause and contrast between ideas, and make each example explicitly support the point it follows.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “excel,” “hardships,” “alleviate,” and “tertiary education,” and the main ideas remain understandable. There are also attempts to express abstract concepts such as destiny and personal effort. However, several word choices and collocations are unnatural or imprecise, which limits clarity: “creating a drama,” “calm their mind,” “struck in a bad situation,” and “win the situation” do not express the intended meanings naturally. “Tragedies” is also too strong for ordinary difficulties such as an unsatisfactory job or lack of money. Build accuracy by learning common word partnerships and choosing vocabulary that matches the scale and context of the issue.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “because,” “when,” and “that,” and the overall meaning is generally clear. Some sentences are controlled, such as “In my view, I believe…” being followed by a clear position, though the phrasing itself could be more concise. Other sentences contain grammatical errors that affect fluency: “when some people are working …, so instead of complaining” combines incompatible structures, and “they usually their goals” is missing a verb. There are also issues with articles, agreement, and punctuation, as in “difficulties are test” and “individuals'life.” Review sentence boundaries and check that every clause has a complete verb, then proofread articles, plurals, and apostrophes.
