Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many individuals argue that in unfavourable situations such as a job which yields low satisfaction or in circumstances of low financial stability, it is best to accept these situations. In contrast, others believe an honest effort should be made to improve these unfavourable circumstances. In my opinion, individual should not give up during these situations and should gather courage to imrpove circumstances expose to them.

Many choose to be accomodactive to unfavourable situations such as unsatisfactory job and running short of money. These individuals accept their shortcomings and choose to change their lifestyle and other aspects of life according to the situations. There can be many potential reasons of why an individual chooses to behave this way. One such reason can be an individuals inclination towards security. Often in underpaid situations, people choose secure job positions, considering they have a stable job for themselves. This pattern is generally observed in government jobs. Government employees are usually underpaid with respect to their tasks and responsibility’s but one can think about security of the job, since government officials have the job till they retire, a secure pension is scheme is also provided by the government which leads them to feeling secure and continue working regardless of their income.

In contrast, other individuals consider that making an honest effort to improve their situation can turn things around for them. In my opinion one should always make a dedicated effort instead of simply accepting situations.

Realising their own potential despite the unfavourable situations projected, an individual should make an effort towards the goals they have envisioned for themselves. This effort not only requires consistency but also huge amount of dedication and hardwork. Often feelings of strong sense of self and realisations of new capabilities are observed among people who tend to make an effort. Many employee’s own the risk of transitioning from a low paying job with more security to a job with less security but more income. Often times, employers observe hardwork and dedication of the individual and promote them to higher positions.

In conclusion, although, it all depends on an individual choice during situations of distress of what they want to do about it. An individual should remain honest to their value system and act in accordance to it. Regardless, of any situation an individual should not stop making consistent efforts.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and state your position: the introduction favours making an effort, and the conclusion reiterates that people should keep trying. The discussion of accepting a difficult situation is supported with a relevant example of government employment and job security. However, this side receives much more specific explanation than the case for trying to improve circumstances, which relies mainly on general claims about dedication, self-belief and possible promotion. The conclusion also partly shifts to saying that the choice depends on personal values, which makes your position less decisive than the introduction. Develop both views more evenly and explain practical ways people might improve their circumstances, while maintaining a consistent opinion throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. The contrast between the positions is signposted with phrases such as “In contrast,” and the government-job example follows logically from the point about security. This meets the expected level of coherent organisation. To make progression more consistently smooth, improve links within paragraphs and avoid abrupt shifts: the second body paragraph moves from personal potential to dedication, self-belief, job transitions and promotion without fully explaining how each point connects. The conclusion’s “it all depends” also weakens the line of argument established earlier. Use clearer topic sentences and develop each paragraph around one main idea.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “unfavourable situations,” “financial stability,” “security,” “consistency” and “dedication.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and some less common expressions are attempted. However, several word-choice and spelling errors reduce precision, such as “accomodactive,” “imrpove,” “hardwork” and “own the risk.” Some phrases are also unnatural or repetitive, including “situations projected” and repeated references to “unfavourable situations.” Aim for accurate collocations and proofread spelling; for example, use “adapt to difficult circumstances,” “take the risk,” and “work hard.” More precise vocabulary would make the argument clearer and more natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including conditional and subordinate clauses, as in “Often in underpaid situations, people choose secure job positions, considering they have a stable job.” The main ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. Examples include the missing article in “individual should,” the agreement error in “an individuals inclination,” and the incorrect plural possessive in “Many employee’s.” There are also sentence-boundary and punctuation problems, such as “In conclusion, although, it all depends…” and the comma after “Regardless.” Review articles, subject–verb agreement, possessives and punctuation, and simplify sentences when needed. Greater control of these patterns would make your varied sentence forms more accurate.
