Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response recognises the two opposing views in the prompt and mentions accepting difficult circumstances and trying to improve them. However, it does not meaningfully discuss either view or give a clear personal opinion, so the task is addressed only minimally. The ideas about waiting for a situation to improve and taking advantage of job opportunities are difficult to interpret and are not explained with reasons or examples. The response is also substantially below the required 250 words, which leaves the discussion and conclusion undeveloped. To improve, state your own position directly, explain why someone might accept a bad situation and why someone might try to change it, then support each point with a relevant example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
There is a basic attempt to introduce the two sides, beginning with “Some people believed” and then “Other people argued.” This gives the reader a general sense of the topic. However, the response has no clear paragraph structure or progression beyond these brief statements, and the second paragraph combines several unclear ideas without showing how they relate. For example, the connection between “avail the bad situations,” shortage of money, and waiting for a situation to improve is not clear. The final sentence repeats earlier references to improvement and jobs rather than concluding the argument. Organise the essay into an introduction, separate paragraphs for each view, and a conclusion stating your opinion; use linking phrases to show the relationship between ideas.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses some vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “shortage of money,” “unsatisfied jobs,” and “improve these situations,” so the general subject is recognisable. However, word choice and spelling are often inaccurate, and several phrases make the intended meaning difficult to understand. Examples include “execelent acceptance,” “avail the bad situations,” and “good offers.” There are also repeated references to “situation” and “jobs,” with little precise vocabulary to explain the two viewpoints. Build a small set of accurate topic phrases and check spelling and collocations. For instance, use “accept a difficult situation,” “seek better employment,” and “financial hardship” where appropriate, ensuring each phrase matches the meaning you intend.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts both simple statements and longer sentence forms, but control of basic grammar is inconsistent. Examples include “Many people thinks,” where the subject and verb do not agree, and “when its improve,” where the verb form is incorrect. The opening also uses “Some people believed” and “Other people argued” even though the prompt presents a general, ongoing debate; present simple forms would be more suitable. Several sentence boundaries and punctuation choices make the ideas run together, particularly in the second paragraph. Practise forming complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, checking agreement and tense, and separating each main idea with appropriate punctuation. More accurate simple sentences should come before attempts at longer structures.
