IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people believe that it is best to accept a bad situation, such as an unsatisfactory job or shortage of money. Others argue that it is better to try and improve such situations.
Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Peole often argue about how people should react in an adverse situation like financial crisis or unsatisfactory job environment. While some people believe that we should put efforts to overcome from such situations, others believe that we should be more accepting of it. Although some conditons might have no practical solutions, I personally think that most of the we can deal with most of the hostile situations provided that we remain determined and work hard.
One of the main reasons why some people think that we should accept any bad situation is that they are concerned about potential risks and outcomes. They argue that some conditions are better to tolerate rather than taking action. They are scared to face the unwanted consequences that might result from their actions. For example, people who keep working in an unsatisfactory environment for years, are concerned that leaving that particular job might pose serious consequences in their future life. They worry whether they would find another job in this economy and would have better opportunities to improve work-life balance, particularly when they have a family to feed. Furthermore, some people are not interest in showing efforts to improve their situations because this requires hardwork.
However, I believe that trying to improve from adverse situation is way better than suffering for a long time. A person going through financial crisis needs give his best towards his work to earn success. Showing no efforts to improve, while waiting for the harsh time to pass would be merely a daydream.
Hardwork, dedication and good intentions can relief us from any hostile condition.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You discuss both views and state a clear preference for trying to improve difficult circumstances, especially in the opening and the paragraph beginning “However, I believe…”. The explanation of why people accept a bad situation is relevant and supported with a job-related example, including concerns about finding another job and supporting a family. However, the argument for making improvements is much less developed: the financial-crisis example is brief, and the claim that hard work can relieve “any hostile condition” is too broad to be convincing. The opening also briefly acknowledges that some situations may have no practical solution, but this qualification is not explored. Develop both sides more evenly and explain realistic ways people might improve their circumstances.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph explaining acceptance, a contrasting paragraph presenting your view, and a concluding statement. Transitions such as “While,” “For example,” “Furthermore,” and “However” help readers follow the shift between ideas. The first main paragraph progresses logically from fear of risk to a specific employment example. However, the final paragraph is very short and largely repeats the central claim rather than bringing the discussion together. The link between the general claim about determination and the financial example could also be clearer. Build a fuller concluding paragraph and use clearer connections to show how each example supports your position.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of vocabulary for the topic, including “adverse situation,” “potential risks,” “unwanted consequences,” and “work-life balance.” These choices help communicate the discussion, and the meaning is generally understandable. However, several spelling, word-form, and collocation errors reduce precision: “Peole,” “conditons,” “not interest,” “hardwork,” and “relief us” are examples. Some expressions are also awkward, such as “overcome from such situations” and “improve from adverse situation.” Aim for accurate, natural combinations rather than relying on ambitious wording. Proofread spelling and learn common collocations such as “overcome a situation,” “make an effort,” and “relieve pressure.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including a concessive opening with “While” and a conditional phrase beginning “provided that.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. For example, “most of the we can deal with most” has a faulty construction, “people who keep working … for years, are concerned” has incorrect comma placement, and “needs give his best” is missing “to.” The sentence “some people are not interest in showing efforts” also has an incorrect adjective form and number pattern. Practise checking verb patterns, articles, agreement, and punctuation, then proofread each sentence for a complete and grammatically consistent structure.
