Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the chart’s subject and give an overview that petroleum products were highest and textiles lowest, which captures two important features. You also report the percentage changes for all five categories. However, several figures and comparisons are inaccurate or unclear: petroleum exports were about $61 billion and $63 billion, not $60 billion and $65 billion; engineered goods rose from about $57 billion to $62 billion, rather than having earnings “same” as petroleum; and textiles were not the lowest category in 2016, when agricultural products and textiles were both about $31.5 billion. The overview also says other categories gave “good earnings” without explaining the main contrasts. More accurate figures and a clearer summary of rises versus the fall in gems would make the report more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs describing categories. This gives the reader some organisation, and phrases such as “The other three categories” signal a shift. However, the progression within paragraphs is often difficult to follow because information is repeated and comparisons are not clearly connected. For example, the petroleum paragraph repeats its earnings and percentage change, while “The categories also billions doller earned in tow years” does not clearly identify the comparison being made. Linking expressions such as “whereas” and “as compared” are used, but sometimes awkwardly or without a clear relationship. Grouping the increases together and then contrasting them with gems, which declined, would create a more logical progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “percentage change,” “categories,” “highest,” and “lowest,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, especially “earned,” “categories,” and “in two year.” Some choices are imprecise for describing chart data: “products” is used where “export category” or “earnings” would be clearer, and “good earnings” does not communicate a specific comparison. Spelling errors such as “doller,” “eanred,” and “highet” also reduce accuracy and can distract the reader. Aim for precise reporting verbs and collocations, such as “generated export revenue” and “rose by,” and check spelling before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
There are attempts to use both simple and longer sentences, including “Whereas other also giving good earnings,” but control is limited and many sentences contain errors that make relationships difficult to understand. Examples include “The petroleum products was highest earning” and “The categories was earned 2015 57 billions,” where subject–verb agreement and sentence structure are faulty. Tense and article use are also inconsistent, as in “the value of the one country's exports” and “the percentage change in two year.” Several fragments or incomplete constructions appear, including “Last one categories is textiles earnd was two years.” Practise building clear comparative sentences with a subject, verb, and accurate time reference, for example: “Petroleum exports rose from about $61 billion in 2015 to $63 billion in 2016.”
