Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the task by summarizing the main features of the chart and table. You successfully identify the highest and lowest categories and note the general trends. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. For example, you mention that 'petroleum products and engineered goods at the top' but do not explicitly compare their values in a way that highlights the key differences effectively. Additionally, the statement regarding the percentage decrease for gems and jewelry is slightly confusing as you attribute it to 2015 rather than the change between 2015 and 2016. To improve, ensure that all data points are clearly linked to the correct year and category to avoid ambiguity.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'While' and 'In the chart', to connect ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel abrupt. For instance, the transition between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. Additionally, there is a minor error in the second paragraph where 'table' is repeated. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would enhance the overall coherence and progression of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'decline', 'significant drop', and 'trends'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'The varieties of exports... has shown its value' and 'went a little up'. These phrases are informal and lack the precision expected in an academic report. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'experienced a marginal increase', or 'remained stable'. Spelling is generally accurate, but word choice needs more refinement.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For example, 'The varieties of exports... has shown' (subject-verb agreement error), 'petroleum products was at' (should be 'were'), and 'information abouts' (incorrect pluralization). These errors are noticeable but do not significantly impede communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions. Increasing the use of error-free complex sentences will help you achieve a higher band score in this criterion.
