Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which negatively impacts the task achievement score. While you have identified some main features, the analysis is incomplete. You mention that there was a 'steady fall' in exports, but the data shows increases in several categories, suggesting a misinterpretation of the chart. Furthermore, the description of the data is somewhat inaccurate; for instance, you state that petroleum and engineered goods rose, but you do not clearly contrast this with the categories that declined. To improve, ensure you accurately report the data and provide a more comprehensive overview that covers all categories presented in the visual aids.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally misused, such as the awkward transition 'While, comparison of both years...' and the incorrect use of 'Although' at the start of a sentence to introduce a contrast that is not fully developed. The progression of ideas is somewhat disjointed, particularly between the overview and the body paragraphs. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider range of linking words more naturally and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that flows logically from the previous one.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. You rely on basic descriptors such as 'steady fall' and 'remained almost the same'. There are also some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'amount of dollars that were generated' and 'textiles seen the highest increase'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise terminology related to data reporting, such as 'fluctuated', 'experienced a marginal decline', or 'witnessed a significant growth'. Expanding your range of synonyms will help you describe trends more effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. For example, 'textiles seen the highest increase' should be 'textiles saw the highest increase', and 'were rose' is an incorrect verb form. Additionally, there are issues with punctuation and sentence fragments, such as the sentence starting with 'Although'. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors limits the score. Focus on mastering subject-verb agreement and the correct use of passive voice when describing data to improve your accuracy.
