Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response covers all requirements of the task. You have successfully identified the main features, such as the dominance of petroleum products and the contrasting trends in textiles and gems/jewellery. The data is accurately reported, and comparisons are made between categories and years. However, there is a minor inconsistency in your data reporting: you mention engineered goods were '57 million' in 2015, whereas the chart indicates 57 billion. Precision is vital in Task 1. To reach a higher band, ensure that all units are consistently stated and that the overview clearly highlights the most significant trends without needing to repeat specific figures.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'while', 'conversely', and 'moving to' to guide the reader through the data. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the overview from the detailed analysis. To improve, ensure that the transition between the introduction and the overview is smoother; currently, the first paragraph is a bit fragmented. Additionally, ensure that referencing is always clear, as some sentences could benefit from more explicit links to the specific categories being discussed.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey information clearly. Phrases like 'most significant increase', 'marginal increase', and 'boost in revenue' are used effectively. There are some minor issues with word choice, such as 'price of gems' (the chart refers to export value, not price) and 'this state' (referring to a country). While the vocabulary is adequate for the task, incorporating more precise terminology related to data trends—such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'surpassed'—would elevate the lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical slips, such as the sentence fragment 'while the table provides data...' and the run-on sentence '...in 2015, this value has seen...'. Additionally, there is a subject-verb agreement error in 'whereas has the least value'. Despite these errors, the meaning is always clear, and the punctuation is generally functional. To achieve a higher band, focus on correcting sentence boundaries and ensuring that complex structures are punctuated correctly to avoid run-on sentences.
