Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have successfully identified the main features of the data and provided a clear overview. You included data from both the chart and the table, making relevant comparisons between the two years. The information is accurate and well-selected. To reach a higher band, ensure that you provide more detailed comparisons between categories rather than just listing the figures for each. For instance, noting that petroleum products maintained their lead despite a smaller growth rate compared to textiles would add depth to your analysis. Overall, the response covers all requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0
The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'meanwhile', 'additionally', and 'in 2016' to guide the reader through the data. The progression of ideas is smooth, moving from the general overview to specific data points. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the 2015 values from the 2016 percentage changes. The flow is natural, and the referencing is clear throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey information precisely, using terms like 'proportion of earnings', 'constituted', and 'deviated from this pattern'. There is a good awareness of style appropriate for an academic report. While the vocabulary is accurate, incorporating a few more sophisticated collocations or synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' would enhance the lexical variety. The spelling is accurate, and the word choice is consistently appropriate for the context of describing statistical data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 8.0
Your grammar is generally strong, with a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. You use subordinate clauses effectively, such as 'with export earnings increasing for the majority of products'. There are very few grammatical errors, and punctuation is handled well. The sentences are clear and easy to follow. To improve further, you could experiment with a wider variety of complex sentence structures, such as using passive voice or more varied introductory phrases to describe the trends, which would demonstrate even greater control.
