Student answer (Band 6.5)
The bar graph illustrates the value of one country's exports in various categories in 2015 and 2016. The table depicts the percentage change in each category of export in 2016 compared with 2015.
Overall, in the bar graph, engineered goods, petroleum products and textiles categories experienced an incline throughout year, while germs and jewellery represented a decline. Moreover, agriculture remained same in the both year. In the table, all the categories accounted for the highest proportion of change in values except germs and jewellery.
To begin with, in the pie chart, petroleum products and engineered goods categories observed the largest proportion in 2015 and 2016. Petroleum products had around 60 billions in 2015 and above 60 in 2016. Likewise, engineered goods had equal proportion above 60 billion in 2016 and in 2015 it was approximately 55 billion. In addition germs and jewellery had above 40 billions in 2015 and it experienced a slightly decrease by 40 billions. The remaining category had a minimal figure.
Turning to the table, Textiles showed the greatest percentage change in values which was 15.24% and the second most largest was engineered goods(8.5%). Petroleum products and agriculture represented 3% and 0.81% respectively. Agriculture products was the only one category which experienced a fall in percentage change in values(5.18%).

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the data, including the bar graph and the table. However, there are significant inaccuracies in data interpretation. For instance, you state that 'agriculture remained same' and that it experienced a 'fall in percentage change', which contradicts the provided data. Furthermore, you refer to the bar graph as a 'pie chart' in the third paragraph, which is a confusing error. While you attempt to report the main features, the misinterpretation of the figures and the confusion regarding the chart type prevent a higher score. To improve, ensure you carefully cross-reference the visual data with your written description to ensure accuracy.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'To begin with', and 'Turning to the table' to signal transitions between ideas. However, the logical progression is occasionally hindered by the factual inaccuracies mentioned in the task achievement section. Additionally, some referencing is slightly mechanical. The paragraphing is appropriate for an academic task, and the overall flow is sufficient to convey the information, though more sophisticated linking words would improve the cohesion of the arguments.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'illustrates', 'depicts', 'proportion', and 'experienced'. However, there are some word choice errors, such as 'germs' (likely meant 'gems') and 'slightly decrease by 40 billions', which is grammatically awkward. The repetition of 'categories' and 'values' limits the sophistication of the response. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring that technical terms are spelled correctly and used in the appropriate context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'remained same in the both year' (should be 'remained the same in both years') and 'second most largest' (should be 'second largest'). Subject-verb agreement and article usage are inconsistent throughout the text. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall clarity. Increasing the variety of complex structures while focusing on accuracy in basic grammar would significantly improve your score.
