Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features and making relevant comparisons between the two years. You successfully highlighted the highest revenue earners and the most significant percentage changes. However, there are some inaccuracies in the data reporting; for instance, you stated petroleum exports were $61 billion in 2016 and $60 billion in 2015, whereas the chart shows $60 billion and $61 billion respectively. Additionally, the description of engineered goods is slightly confused regarding the direction of the trend. To reach a higher band, ensure that data points are transcribed with absolute precision and that trends are described consistently with the provided figures.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, with an introduction, body paragraphs focusing on values and variations, and a brief summary. Cohesive devices such as 'In detail', 'Furthermore', 'In contrast', and 'Overall' are used to guide the reader. However, the progression within paragraphs is occasionally mechanical, and some referencing is slightly awkward, such as 'the second notable changed happened'. While the structure is clear, the use of cohesive devices could be more sophisticated and varied to improve the flow between sentences and ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'revenue', 'accounted for', 'soared', and 'dominated'. There are some instances of word-choice errors or awkward collocations, such as 'the accompanying table chart compared the percentage of variation' and 'the second notable changed happened'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over academic terminology. Expanding your repertoire of reporting verbs and noun phrases related to statistical trends would help elevate your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('The bar graph illustrate', 'export revenue were') and tense consistency ('after experienced a decreased'). Additionally, there are issues with article usage and pluralization, such as 'in both year' and 'the petroleum products were increased'. While the meaning remains clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would be highly beneficial.
