Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features and comparing the data from both the chart and the table. You have successfully highlighted the highest revenue earners and noted the percentage changes. However, there are some inaccuracies in the data reporting; for instance, you stated petroleum products were $61 billion in 2016 and $60 billion in 2015, but the chart shows the reverse. Additionally, the description of the trends could be more precise by consistently distinguishing between the absolute values and the percentage changes. Overall, the information is clearly presented, and the main trends are identified.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The response is logically organized into clear paragraphs, with an introduction, body paragraphs for the chart and table data, and a summary. You use cohesive devices such as 'In detail', 'Furthermore', 'In contrast', and 'Overall' to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally repetitive. The progression of ideas is generally clear, though the link between the bar chart data and the table data could be more fluid to improve the overall flow of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'revenue', 'accounted for', 'soared', and 'dominated'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'table chart' (redundant) and 'Germs and jewelry' (likely a misspelling of 'Gems'). While you attempt to use less common vocabulary, some phrasing is slightly awkward, such as 'the second notable changed happened'. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the meaning clearly, but more precise terminology would elevate the response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('The bar graph illustrate', 'export revenue were') and tense consistency ('after experienced a decreased'). Additionally, there are issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. To reach a higher band, focus on ensuring that your verbs agree with their subjects and that you use consistent tenses when describing data from the same period.
