Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the data, such as the growth in textiles and the decline in gems and jewellery. However, the report is somewhat unbalanced. While you mention the percentage changes, you fail to integrate the actual values provided in the chart, which is a key requirement for a comprehensive summary. The overview is also weak; it is placed at the end and lacks a clear synthesis of the overall trends. To improve, ensure you provide a clear overview in the introduction and make more effective comparisons between the categories rather than just listing them individually.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is hindered by awkward phrasing and a lack of clear cohesive devices. Transitions like 'From tabular representation' and 'In the end' are somewhat mechanical and do not always flow naturally. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the final sentence which mentions agriculture declining, even though the data shows a positive percentage change. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear focus would significantly enhance the readability and logical flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety expected at higher bands. You rely on repetitive structures and basic descriptors like 'little positive change' or 'jumped'. There are also some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'turn in down trend' instead of 'showed a downward trend' and 'expect' instead of 'except'. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to data trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'marginal', or 'significant growth', and ensure correct collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'the majority of change had occur' (should be 'occurred'), 'others category tends to be had' (should be 'other categories tended to have'), and 'along the 2015 compared to 2016'. These errors in tense, subject-verb agreement, and preposition usage are noticeable. Focusing on sentence construction and proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would help you move to a higher band.
