Student answer (Band 7.5)
The chart illustrates the value of one country's exports in various categories during 2015 and 2016 whereas the table compares the percentage change in each category of exports in 2016 with 2015.
It is evident from the given chart that the highest rate of export was of petroleum products, at about 60 in 2015 and 62 in 2016. However, the export level of engineered goods in 2015 is lower compared to 2016 with the difference of approximately 4$ billion. Furthermore, there is a slight decline in the export of gems and jewellery in 2016 than 2015. More over, no changes can be seen in the export of agricultural products in both year. In contrast, the textile export in 2015 is comparatively less than in 2016.
Regarding the percentage change in values, the value increased slightly representing a 3% rise for petroleum products and 8.5% for engineered goods. By contrast, the value of gems and jewellery export fell roughly, reflecting 5.18% decrease. In comparison, the agricultural products and textiles rise by 0.81% and 15.24% resectively.
Overall, despite the slight decline in gems and jewellery, the country's export performance improved in most sectors between 2015 and 2016.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response covers all parts of the task, providing a clear overview and selecting key features from both the chart and the table. You successfully identified the highest export category and noted the trends for each sector. However, the analysis could be improved by more precise referencing of the data. For instance, stating 'about 60' is acceptable, but ensure you include the units (e.g., $ billion) consistently. You also made a minor error in interpreting the agricultural products, stating 'no changes' when the table indicates a 0.81% increase. Overall, the information is well-selected and the main trends are clearly highlighted.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0
The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a concluding summary. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the chart data from the percentage change data. You use a range of cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Furthermore', 'In contrast', and 'By contrast' to link ideas. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The referencing is clear, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow throughout the text. Overall, the structure supports the reader's understanding of the data effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information clearly. Phrases like 'slight decline', 'export performance', and 'percentage change' are used accurately. There are a few minor errors, such as 'resectively' (spelling) and 'fell roughly' (collocation), but these do not impede communication. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more sophisticated synonyms for 'increase' or 'decrease' and ensure precise collocations when describing statistical trends. The vocabulary is adequate for the task and allows for a clear description of the provided data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. Most sentences are clear and error-free, though there are occasional slips, such as 'in both year' (should be 'years') and 'than 2015' (should be 'compared to 2015'). Punctuation is generally accurate, though there is a minor error with the dollar sign placement ('4$ billion'). These errors are infrequent and do not cause difficulty for the reader. Your control over grammar is solid, and you demonstrate the ability to construct complex sentences effectively.
