Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features of both the chart and the table. You successfully highlight the highest and lowest export categories and note the percentage changes. However, the analysis is somewhat descriptive rather than analytical. For instance, you list data points without always synthesising them into a clear comparison. To reach a higher band, ensure you group data more effectively to highlight trends rather than just listing figures. The overview is present but could be more distinct to better summarise the overall trends across the two years.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is logically organised into an introduction, body paragraph, and conclusion. You use some cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Also', and 'In conclusion' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel slightly repetitive. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the progression of ideas could be smoother. For example, the transition between the chart data and the table data could be more sophisticated to show the relationship between the two sets of information more clearly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'categories', 'percentage change', and 'downfall'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'hike' (which is slightly informal for an academic report) and 'exported' used as a noun. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the meaning, it lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. Incorporating more precise reporting verbs and nouns related to data trends would improve the quality of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'export of petroleum products... has been higher... has been higher' (repetition) and 'percentage of change in each category of exported' (incorrect word form). Additionally, there are punctuation issues, such as the unnecessary capitalisation of 'The' in the middle of sentences. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and sentence structure variety will help improve your accuracy.
