Student answer (Band 5.0)
The provided graph illustrates the value of one country’s exports in various categories during 2015 and 2016. However, the table shows the percentage change in each category of exports in 2016 compared with 2015.
Overall, the bar graph depicts the slight changes in the value of export products between 2015 and 2016, including, petroleum, engineered goods, gems, textiles and agriculture
During this period, the graph showcases the proportion of all the products being exported. In addition, an increase of 3% was noticed in petroleum products until 2016. However, the highest figures which were observed were of textiles, around 15%. In comparison, engineered goods had a change of 8.5% by 2016 which was the second highest value. Moreover, agricultural products had the least variation during 2015 and 2016. The overall proportion of export earnings climbed steadily, from 2015 until 2016. The values varies constantly throughout the timeline.
As we can observe, by the end of 2016, the change in percentage values were clearly noticed, with the most of textiles.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the data, but it lacks precision and fails to clearly distinguish between the two data sources (the chart and the table). While you mention the categories, you do not accurately report the specific values provided in the prompt. For instance, stating that textiles were 'around 15%' is vague when the data is likely specific. Furthermore, the analysis is somewhat repetitive and lacks a clear comparison between the two years. To improve, ensure you explicitly state the values for both 2015 and 2016 and use the percentage change data to highlight the most significant trends rather than just listing them.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression is weak. The transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is abrupt, and the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical (e.g., 'In addition', 'Moreover', 'In comparison'). Some sentences do not flow logically from one to the next, particularly in the third paragraph where the connection between the export earnings and the specific category variations is unclear. Using a wider range of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus would improve the overall structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision required for a higher band. You rely on basic descriptors like 'slight changes', 'highest figures', and 'least variation'. There is an attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary, but it is limited. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more precise terminology related to data analysis, such as 'fluctuated', 'experienced a marginal increase', or 'remained relatively stable'. Additionally, avoid repetitive phrasing like 'the values varies constantly', which is also grammatically incorrect.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally hinder clarity. For example, 'the values varies constantly' (subject-verb agreement error) and 'the change in percentage values were clearly noticed' (subject-verb agreement error). Additionally, the phrasing 'with the most of textiles' is incomplete and grammatically awkward. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and ensuring sentence fragments are avoided will significantly improve your accuracy.
