Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the data, including the values for 2015 and 2016 and the percentage changes. However, there are some inaccuracies in the data reporting. For instance, the text states that petroleum products were the highest export in 2015, but the chart shows engineered goods were higher in 2015. Additionally, the description of the trends is somewhat inconsistent, as the text mentions petroleum products were the highest but does not provide the 2016 figure clearly. To improve, ensure that all data points are accurately transcribed and that comparisons are made more precisely between the two years.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'while' are used to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing and some mechanical use of transitions. The overview is present but could be more effectively integrated to highlight the most significant trends rather than just listing categories. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but the internal structure of the body paragraphs could be tightened to ensure a smoother progression of information.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to describe the data and trends. There are attempts to use specific terminology like 'exportation' and 'earning', though some word choices are slightly unnatural or repetitive (e.g., 'exportation' used multiple times). There are also minor errors in collocation, such as 'presented with' or 'stood with'. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensuring that word forms are used correctly in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses and articles (e.g., 'The table present', 'petroleum products considered', 'represented with second the highest'). These errors are noticeable but do not generally impede communication. The student needs to work on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of passive voice constructions to improve accuracy. While the range of structures is sufficient to convey the information, the frequency of errors prevents a higher score.
