IELTS Writing Task 1 question
The chart below shows the value of one country’s exports in various categories during 2015 and 2016. The table shows the percentage change in each category of exports in 2016 compared with 2015.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The given bar graph gives us information about the country's exports in various categories during 2015 and 2016 and the table shows the percentage change in each category of exports in 2016 compared with 2015.
A cursory glance at the graph is adequate enough to reveal that in 2015 petroleum products were at its peak, it was 61 billion dollars export earnings and further in engineered goods it declined slightly to 44 billion dollars. Additionally, it dropped drastically in gems and jewellery export revenue. Apart from this, in 2016 export earnings of both agricultural products as well as textiles were same.
Further looking at the table it can be clearly seen that, petroleum products increased 3% and engineered goods inclined to 8.5% during 2015 and 2016. In addition, textiles climbed to 15.24% which was the highest among all values.
After analysing the graph export earnings in the year 2015 shows a fallings trend in all different products.
