Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While you have identified some main features, such as the growth in textiles and the decline in gems and jewellery, the analysis is underdeveloped. You have not provided a comprehensive overview of the data, and the comparison between the two years is limited. To improve, ensure you cover all categories mentioned in the chart and provide a clear, analytical summary that highlights the most significant trends rather than just listing individual data points. The under-length penalty is applied here as the response is 145 words.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into short paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical, such as 'In fact' and 'While'. The transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is abrupt. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words to connect ideas more fluidly and ensure each paragraph has a clear focus. The referencing is generally clear, but the overall structure lacks the sophistication required for higher bands.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision expected at higher levels. You use basic descriptors like 'large numbers' and 'small numbers' rather than more precise terms like 'significant value' or 'marginal contribution'. There are also some minor errors in word choice, such as 'god values' (likely a typo for 'good') and 'every categories' (should be 'every category'). To improve, focus on using more academic collocations and ensure subject-verb agreement in your noun phrases.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are recurring grammatical errors. For example, 'every categories' is incorrect; it should be 'every category'. Additionally, 'textiles is the only category, that has seen' contains an unnecessary comma. The phrase 'which is around 60 billion dollars' is slightly awkward. To improve, focus on proofreading for pluralization and punctuation errors. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures while maintaining accuracy will help raise your score.
