Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have successfully identified the main trends and provided relevant data points to support your summary. You covered all categories and made appropriate comparisons, such as noting that petroleum products and engineered goods were the top earners. However, the response lacks a clear overview of the data in the introduction, and some data reporting is slightly imprecise (e.g., 'Petroleum products about $61 billion'). To reach a higher band, ensure you provide a more cohesive summary of the overall trends in the introduction and ensure all data points are clearly linked to the categories they represent.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Overall' and 'In 2016', to transition between ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by missing verbs or awkward phrasing, such as 'goods also grew' (which category?) and 'Gems and Jewellery were the only products that price'. These errors make the progression of ideas feel slightly mechanical. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each sentence has a clear subject and verb will significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'export earners', 'growth', and 'categories'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors that impede clarity, such as 'changed very small' instead of 'changed very little' and 'value fill' instead of 'value fell'. Additionally, some sentences are missing key vocabulary to make them grammatically complete. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensure that the words you choose fit the context of describing statistical trends accurately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
Your writing shows a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that affect readability. For example, 'Petroleum products about $61 billion' is missing a verb, and 'Agricultural products changed very small' uses an adjective where an adverb is required. There are also issues with sentence fragments and missing articles. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic sentence construction, specifically ensuring every sentence contains a clear subject and a verb.
