Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The given graph illustrates various categories in export of a country in 2 given years 2015 and 2016. At the same time, the table displays changes of each export in percentage in the same given years.

As the graph expresses, petroleum products export value stayed the highest, showing a slight rise by 3 percent in 2016 reaching only slightly over 60 billion dollars. While the value of engineered goods was fractionally lower than petroleum products in 2015 that was almost 60 billion dollars, nevertheless it increased by 8.5 percent in 2016 taking the value a little over 60 billion dollars.

Apart from that, the value of export for agricultural products in the year 2015 was 31 billion dollar and it merely increased to 0.81 percent in the year after that. Although textile exports were valued 25 billion dollars in 2015, it showed a significantly higher value in 2016 by 15.24 percent. The export value of gems and jewellery surprisingly diminished slightly in the year 2016 dipping 5.18 percent, this trend was only noticed in the value of gems and jewellery.

In closing, the lowest change in value was observed in agricultural products, whereas the value increased the most in textile exports.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features and making relevant comparisons. You successfully highlighted the highest and lowest values and noted the trends in the table. However, the analysis could be more precise. For example, you mention that agricultural products 'merely increased to 0.81 percent', which is a misinterpretation of the data (the table shows a percentage change, not a value). Additionally, the description of the engineered goods value as 'a little over 60 billion dollars' is slightly vague. To reach a higher band, ensure that data points are described with greater accuracy and that the distinction between absolute values and percentage changes is clearly maintained throughout the report.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a concluding summary. You use cohesive devices such as 'Apart from that', 'Although', and 'In closing' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For instance, the transition between the graph data and the table data could be better integrated to show the relationship between the two. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different categories of exports, which helps the reader follow your argument. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, but the use of cohesive devices could be more sophisticated.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'diminished', 'fractionally', and 'significantly'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'graph expresses' (should be 'graph shows' or 'illustrates') and 'increased to 0.81 percent' (should be 'increased by'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your report. To improve, try to incorporate more varied reporting verbs and precise collocations related to data interpretation, such as 'experienced a marginal increase' or 'witnessed a downward trend'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as the 'Although' clause in the third paragraph. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'export of a country in 2 given years' (should be 'the exports of a country over two years') and 'valued 25 billion dollars' (should be 'valued at 25 billion dollars'). Punctuation is generally correct, but there is a comma splice in the third paragraph: '...dipping 5.18 percent, this trend was only noticed...'. Increasing the frequency of error-free complex sentences would help elevate your score in this criterion.
