Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all parts of the task by reporting on both the bar chart and the table. You have successfully identified the main features and made relevant comparisons, such as noting the positive fluctuations in petroleum and engineered goods versus the decline in gems and jewellery. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical, listing data points rather than synthesising them into a more cohesive overview. To reach a higher band, ensure that the 'main features' are highlighted more clearly in the introduction or overview, and avoid simply listing figures, which can make the report feel like a data dump rather than a summary.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is logically organised into clear paragraphs: an introduction, body paragraphs for the data, and a summary. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In terms of', 'whereas', and 'To summarize', which help the flow of information. However, some transitions feel a bit repetitive or forced. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the connection between the bar chart data and the percentage changes in the table could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'fluctuations', 'incline', and 'market value'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'the country export 1billion more' (should be 'exported') and 'faces positive fluctuations' (should be 'faced'). Additionally, 'gems and jewellary' contains a spelling error. To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensure that your verb tenses and word forms are consistent with the context of reporting past data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and tense consistency, such as 'The given bar chart illustrate' (should be 'illustrates') and 'petroleum product were' (should be 'products were'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. You should pay closer attention to pluralisation and ensuring that your verbs agree with the subjects, especially when discussing data from a specific past year like 2015 and 2016.
