Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all categories mentioned in the prompt and provides a clear overview of the trends. You successfully identified the main features, such as the growth in textiles and the decline in gems and jewellery. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. To reach a higher band, you should provide more detailed comparisons between the categories rather than just listing them. For example, noting that textiles grew by over 15% while agriculture remained nearly stagnant would provide a stronger analytical comparison. Ensure that all data points are accurately transcribed, as the prompt asks for a summary of the provided information.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Overall', 'However', and 'while' to connect ideas. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel repetitive. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the phrase 'after that export earnings of gems and jewellery fall', which lacks a smooth logical connection to the previous sentence. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus will help improve the overall cohesion of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to describe the trends using terms like 'illustrates', 'percentage change', 'rise', and 'fall'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'products category' instead of 'product categories' and 'dramatically rise' instead of 'dramatic rise'. To achieve a higher band, try to incorporate more precise vocabulary related to data description, such as 'experienced a significant increase' or 'witnessed a marginal growth'. Avoid repeating the same phrases throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'there are five product category are given'), incorrect article usage, and punctuation errors. For instance, 'who's' is used incorrectly instead of 'whose'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic errors like pluralisation and verb tense consistency, and try to vary your sentence structures with more complex clauses.
