Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers all parts of the task by reporting on both the export values and the percentage changes. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. While the main features are identified, the comparison between categories is limited. For instance, the report mentions specific figures but lacks a clear synthesis of the trends, such as contrasting the growth in textiles with the decline in gems and jewellery. The overview is present but could be more analytical. The data is generally accurate, but the presentation of the percentage changes in the final paragraph is slightly disjointed from the initial value descriptions.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'At first' to begin a paragraph or 'At the end' to conclude. Some transitions, like 'Although' at the start of the final paragraph, are used incorrectly as they do not introduce a concession. While the progression of ideas is generally clear, the internal cohesion within sentences could be improved to ensure a smoother flow between the data points provided.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'money of exports' instead of 'export values' and 'give benefit of' instead of 'generated revenue'. The term 'germs' is a spelling error for 'gems'. While the student attempts to use specific terminology related to the chart, the range is limited, and the phrasing often sounds unnatural or repetitive. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on more precise collocations and avoid informal phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'agricultural products earns constant'), incorrect tense usage, and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'it was $31 billion but, there was a difference'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of commas before conjunctions. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader and indicate a lack of control over complex structures.
