Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the data, including the categories and the percentage changes. However, the overview is slightly inaccurate; stating that exports are 'declining' is a generalization that does not fully reflect the mixed data provided, where some categories increased and others decreased. While you have selected key data points, the analysis lacks precision in comparing the two years. For example, the description of the 'petroleum' category is somewhat confusing, as you mention it is the highest earner but then discuss its percentage change in a way that is difficult to follow. To improve, ensure your overview clearly summarizes the overall trends rather than focusing on specific figures, and ensure all data points cited are clearly linked to the correct year.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the logical progression between sentences is sometimes weak. For instance, the transition between the overview and the body paragraphs is abrupt. The use of cohesive devices is limited and occasionally mechanical, such as 'In meantime' and 'The major increase'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult to track which year or category is being discussed. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through the data analysis.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
There is an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, but there are frequent spelling errors such as 'revenew', 'petrolium', and 'contriubted'. These errors, while not always impeding communication, are noticeable. You attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'threshold' and 'marginal decline', which is good, but the overall control is inconsistent. To reach a higher band, focus on accurate spelling and using collocations more naturally. For example, instead of 'set huge dent', a more natural phrase would be 'had a significant impact'. Expanding your range of synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' will also help improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally affect clarity. Examples include 'The chart given illustrate' (subject-verb agreement), 'in a year 2015' (article usage), and 'second year seats around' (incorrect verb choice). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some missing spaces after periods. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from being considered error-free. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement, article usage, and proofreading for basic grammatical slips.
