Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the development of the task. While you have identified some main features, the analysis is incomplete. You have not fully integrated the data from the chart and the table to provide a comprehensive summary. For example, you mention '60.1 billion dollars' but do not clarify which category this refers to, leading to confusion. Furthermore, the description of the percentage changes is sometimes inaccurate or confusingly phrased, such as 'gems and jewelry has decreased percentage export earnings by 5.18%'. To improve, ensure you cover all categories and provide a clear overview that synthesizes the information rather than listing isolated figures.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is written as a single paragraph, which lacks the necessary structure for an IELTS Task 1 report. While there is a basic attempt at logical flow, the lack of clear paragraphing makes it difficult to follow the progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Furthermore' and 'In contrast', but they are sometimes used mechanically or incorrectly. For instance, the transition 'As well as having roughly around...' is grammatically awkward and does not effectively link to the previous sentence. To improve, organize your report into a clear introduction, an overview of the main trends, and separate paragraphs for detailed comparisons.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You rely heavily on basic terms like 'increase', 'decrease', and 'changed values'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'steady increasing' (should be 'steadily increasing') and 'arms and jewelry' (likely a misreading of 'gems and jewelry'). The phrasing 'highest percentage of changed values' is imprecise. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more varied and precise vocabulary related to data trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'experienced a marginal rise', or 'remained relatively stable', and ensure you use terminology accurately to describe the data provided.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'gems and jewelry has decreased' (should be 'have decreased') and 'petroleum products having 3% greater'. Sentence structures are often fragmented or run-on, such as 'In which petroleum products having 3% greater in 2016 compared to 2015.' The use of prepositions and comparative structures is also inconsistent. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and ensuring that your verb tenses are consistent when describing past data. Practice using complex sentences with correct punctuation to enhance your grammatical range.
