Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers all categories provided in the chart and table, successfully identifying main trends and making relevant comparisons. You have included specific data points for 2015 and 2016, which is essential for Task 1. However, the overview is somewhat weak; while you mention petroleum and textiles, it lacks a broader summary of the overall performance of the export sector. Additionally, some data interpretation is slightly imprecise, such as the claim that agricultural products remained constant despite the 0.81% increase. To reach a higher band, ensure your overview highlights the most significant trends (e.g., the general growth across most sectors versus the decline in gems and jewellery) more clearly.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally misused. For example, starting a sentence with 'on the other hand' is not appropriate here as there is no contrast with the previous paragraph. The transition between the overview and the body paragraphs is abrupt. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'In contrast', 'Furthermore', 'Consequently') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus. The logical progression is present but could be smoother with better signposting between the data points.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'export earnings', 'accounted for', and 'trend'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'income form exports' (should be 'from'), 'accounted at' (should be 'accounted for'), and 'faces loss' (should be 'experienced a decline'). Spelling errors like 'billlion', 'tha', and 'contant' also detract from the overall quality. To achieve a higher score, focus on using more precise collocations and ensure you proofread your work to eliminate basic spelling mistakes that could have been avoided.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include incorrect verb tenses ('remains contant' instead of 'remained constant'), missing articles ('the' before 'export amount'), and punctuation errors, such as the lack of capitalisation at the start of sentences and improper comma usage. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to lower the score. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage when describing past data. Practising the correct use of articles and prepositions will also help increase your accuracy.
