Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main features of the data, such as identifying the highest and lowest export categories. However, the analysis is inconsistent and contains factual inaccuracies regarding the data provided in the prompt. For instance, the description of the 2015 and 2016 values is confusing and does not accurately reflect the figures presented in the chart. The summary of the percentage changes is also disjointed, failing to clearly contrast the growth and decline across categories. To improve, ensure that the data points cited are accurate and that the comparison between the two years is logically structured.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the progression of ideas is often unclear. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inappropriate, such as the sentence fragment 'Furthermore, percentage change in values in 2016 compared with 2015.' Referencing is also problematic, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the bar chart and the table. Improving the use of transition signals and ensuring each paragraph has a clear, unified focus would significantly enhance the flow of the writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'export earning' are used repeatedly, and there are errors in word choice, such as 'engineered good' instead of 'engineered goods' and 'all over the category'. Some terms are used in a way that suggests a lack of precision, such as 'reached just over the 20 billions'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider variety of synonyms and more precise terminology related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'witnessed a growth of', or 'remained constant'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'Gems and jewellery were fell rapidly', and incorrect punctuation, including unnecessary commas. The sentence structures are mostly simple or contain errors when attempting complexity. For example, 'The Petroleum products grew steadily 3%, and engineered good rose 8.5% which second largest percentage all over the category' lacks necessary prepositions and relative pronouns. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would help improve your score.
