Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the data, including the export values and percentage changes. However, the analysis is somewhat inconsistent. For instance, the description of the Gems and Jewelry category is slightly confusing, and the comparison between the bar chart and the table could be more precise. While the main trends are identified, the report lacks a clear, analytical overview that synthesizes the data effectively. Some figures are presented without clear context, and the relationship between the two years is occasionally muddled by grammatical issues, which hinders the clarity of the reporting.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'Moving forward to' and 'Significantly noticeable that'. The logical progression between sentences is sometimes interrupted by awkward phrasing, making the flow feel disjointed. While there is an attempt to use linking words, they are not always used with the flexibility required for a higher band. Referencing is generally clear, but the overall structure could be improved by better signposting of the data comparisons.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'incremate' instead of 'increase', 'rise' used incorrectly as a past tense verb, and 'amplify' used where 'increased' or 'grew' would be more appropriate. The phrasing 'selling in year 2016' is also unnatural. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary, the errors in word formation and collocation occasionally impede the reader's understanding of the specific data points being discussed.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Subject-verb agreement is a recurring issue, for example, 'all the product category was low' and 'textiles was lower'. There are also errors in tense usage, such as 'it rise to 8.5% then i was in 2015', and incorrect preposition usage. These errors are noticeable and sometimes make the sentences difficult to parse. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the lack of control over basic grammatical structures prevents a higher score.
