Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly limits the depth of the analysis. While you have identified some main features, the report is incomplete. You have misread the data in several instances (e.g., citing 2017 instead of 2016, and incorrectly stating that petroleum products earned 60 billion in 2016 when the chart shows a different figure). Furthermore, the comparison between the bar chart and the table is not fully integrated, and the lack of sufficient detail prevents a clear overview of the trends. To improve, ensure you accurately transcribe data points and provide a more comprehensive summary of all categories.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is hindered by inaccurate data reporting and awkward phrasing. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To commence with' and 'Moving ahead', but they are sometimes used mechanically or inappropriately. The referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the two years. To improve, focus on using transition signals that naturally link your ideas and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus. Improving the clarity of your sentences will help the overall flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'stuffs', 'amount', and 'money'. There are several instances of inaccurate word choice, such as 'engineered good' instead of 'engineered goods' and 'catagory' (spelling error). The use of 'earning money change into value' is unclear and does not accurately describe the percentage change shown in the table. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', 'experienced a growth of', and 'accounted for'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'textile earn'), incorrect tense usage, and missing articles. Sentence structures are generally simple, and attempts at more complex sentences are often marred by punctuation errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'There were smallest differences between gems and jewellery in different year likely 40,and 41 billion.' To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct verb tenses and pluralisation, before attempting more complex structures. Proofreading for basic punctuation and spelling errors is also essential.
