Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response attempts to address the task by summarizing the provided data, but it fails to accurately report the main features. There are significant factual errors, such as stating that petroleum products remained at 60 billion in 2016 when the data indicates a change, and the description of the trends is confusing and often contradictory. The overview is missing, and the information is not clearly organized to highlight the key differences between the two years. The response lacks a clear summary of the overall trends, which is essential for an Academic Task 1 response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The essay lacks a logical structure. Paragraphing is used, but the progression of ideas within paragraphs is disjointed. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link sentences and ideas, making the text difficult to follow. The transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is abrupt, and the lack of clear referencing makes it hard to identify which data points the writer is discussing. The overall arrangement of information is not coherent, which hinders the reader's understanding of the data presented.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive, with frequent spelling errors such as 'illaburate' (elaborate), 'categious' (categories), 'agritucultural' (agricultural), and 'benifits' (benefits). The word choice is often imprecise, such as using 'geens' instead of 'gems'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the information accurately, and the errors in spelling and word formation are frequent enough to cause some difficulty for the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('petroleum product are earne', 'that are rised'), incorrect verb tenses, and poor sentence structure. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the punctuation is inconsistent. These errors are pervasive and often distort the meaning of the sentences, making it difficult for the reader to interpret the data correctly. The control of basic grammar is weak.
