Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarize the data but fails to provide a clear overview of the main trends. The student lists individual data points rather than synthesizing the information to highlight significant features or comparisons. Furthermore, the interpretation of the data is inaccurate; the student describes the values as 'earning' and 'percentage' interchangeably, leading to confusion. The response lacks a clear summary of the overall trends, such as which categories saw the most significant growth or decline. To improve, focus on grouping data logically and identifying the most important changes rather than simply transcribing figures from the table.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organized into short, somewhat repetitive paragraphs. While there is a basic attempt to sequence information, the flow is hindered by awkward phrasing and a lack of varied cohesive devices. Transitions between sentences are mechanical, such as 'By understanding the given statement,' which is used twice. The logical progression is weak because the data is presented as a list of facts rather than a cohesive analysis. To improve, use a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'In contrast,' 'Furthermore,' 'Conversely') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. The student frequently uses 'earning' and 'greater' to describe numerical values, which is imprecise. There is a lack of variety in reporting verbs and comparative language. For instance, 'very greater' is grammatically incorrect and lexically weak. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more precise terminology for describing data, such as 'experienced a rise,' 'remained stable,' or 'showed a significant increase.' Avoid repeating the same adjectives and nouns throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include incorrect comparative structures (e.g., 'very greater' instead of 'significantly higher'), missing articles, and awkward sentence construction. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods. The range of sentence structures is limited, relying mostly on simple, repetitive patterns. To improve, focus on mastering basic comparative structures and ensuring subject-verb agreement. Practicing the use of complex sentences, such as those using relative clauses or subordinating conjunctions, will also help improve your score.
