Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response partially addresses the task by summarizing the exports and percentage changes between 2015 and 2016. However, it lacks clear and precise comparisons between categories and does not fully convey the trends present in the data. For example, the mention of ‘engineered goods’ lacks context on overall performance, leading to a gap in reporting major features. Consequently, the clarity and coverage of the data analysis are insufficient for a higher band rating.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The organization of the response is unclear and disjointed. The use of ‘Body 1’ and ‘Body 2’ does not aid coherence, and there are issues with transitions between points, making the flow difficult to follow. Additionally, there are numerous grammar and structural errors, such as missing articles and incorrect prepositions, which hinder the logical progression of the information presented. Therefore, coherence and cohesion are below expectations for a higher band.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The lexical resource shows a limited range of vocabulary, featuring terms such as ‘more then,’ ‘around of,’ and ‘decrease’ which are either incorrect or poorly used. Furthermore, standard expressions like ‘40 billion and 41 increase dollars’ should have used clearer phrasing. Some phrases, like ‘percentage petroleum products,’ indicate confusion in expression. Overall, vocabulary choices exhibit a need for improvement to convey ideas more accurately and effectively for higher marks.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The grammatical structure of the response is inaccurate at times, with notable issues such as ‘amounted of 60 billion’ and ‘the percentage product category agricultural.’ There are also inconsistent verb tenses and plurality errors (e.g., ‘decrease petroleum around 59 billions dollar’). Although some accurate sentences exist, these errors significantly undermine clarity and fluency, resulting in a lower band score for grammatical range and accuracy.
Overall feedback
Your response demonstrates an ability to describe the provided data, but it often lacks clarity and detail. To improve, focus on organizing your thoughts more clearly by using paragraphs that flow logically. Use headings or transition phrases to enhance coherence. Additionally, pay attention to verb tenses and specific terminology to accurately convey the changes and data involved in the exports. Work on expanding your vocabulary to include more precise language, as this can elevate your writing significantly. Finally, be mindful of calculating percentages correctly and accurately articulating them in your sentences, as these are key components of effective summary writing.
