Student answer (Band 6.5)
The bar chart illustrates the value of one country's exports in various categories during 2015 and 2016, while the table provides the percentage change in each category of exports in 2016 compared with 2015.

In addition, engineered goods represented almost $56 billion in 2015 before increasing to around $61 billion in 2016. Gems and jewellery, on the other hand, accounted for around $42 billion, which decreased to approximately $40.5 billion in 2016, Similarly, agricultural products reported around $31 billion in 2015. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response effectively addresses all parts of the task. You have provided a clear overview of the main trends and successfully integrated data from both the bar chart and the table. The selection of key features, such as the highest growth in textiles and the decline in gems and jewellery, is accurate and well-supported by the provided figures. The comparison between the two years is consistent throughout the report. To reach a higher band, ensure that the overview captures the most significant differences more concisely, as the current structure is slightly repetitive when moving from the bar chart description to the table data.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. The use of cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'on the other hand', and 'Turning to' helps guide the reader through the data. However, the transition between the description of the bar chart and the table is slightly mechanical. While the paragraphing is appropriate, the flow could be improved by integrating the percentage changes directly into the analysis of the export values rather than dedicating a separate paragraph to the table, which leads to some repetition of information.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey information with precision, using terms like 'export earnings', 'proportion', and 'increment'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'reported for the smallest proportion in terms of increment', which is slightly awkward. Additionally, 'Regrading' is a misspelling of 'Regarding'. While the vocabulary is adequate for the task, incorporating more sophisticated collocations or varied synonyms for 'increased' and 'decreased' would enhance the lexical quality.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most sentences are clear and easy to follow. There are occasional grammatical errors, such as 'all four sector' (should be plural 'sectors') and 'the gems and jewellery' (the article 'the' is unnecessary here). Punctuation is generally sound, though there is a stray comma in '2016, Similarly,'. Despite these minor slips, the errors do not impede communication, and the control over complex structures is generally good.
