Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the data, including the categories and the percentage changes. However, there are significant inaccuracies in the interpretation of the data. For instance, you state that there was a reduction in agricultural products, whereas the table shows a positive percentage change. Additionally, the claim that 'all the product's export earnings increased' contradicts your earlier statement about gems and jewellery. To reach a higher band, ensure that your summary of the data is factually accurate and that you clearly highlight the most significant trends rather than listing every figure. The overview is also somewhat confused by these factual errors.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is organised into two paragraphs, which is appropriate for this task. However, the progression of ideas is hindered by the factual inconsistencies mentioned in the task achievement section. While some cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the other hand' and 'Furthermore', the flow is occasionally mechanical. The referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly when discussing the trends. To improve, focus on using a wider range of linking words to connect your sentences more fluidly and ensure that your logical progression is supported by accurate data interpretation.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, covering the necessary terminology such as 'export earnings', 'categories', and 'percentage change'. However, there is a lack of variety, and some phrasing is repetitive. There are also minor errors in word choice, such as 'time periof' (typo) and 'Different categories shows' (subject-verb agreement). To improve, try to incorporate more precise reporting verbs and nouns, such as 'fluctuated', 'experienced a decline', or 'witnessed a marginal increase', to demonstrate a more sophisticated range of vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('Different categories shows', 'there was increased'), missing articles ('in export earning of petroleum'), and punctuation errors (lack of capitalisation at the start of sentences). These errors are noticeable but do not completely impede communication. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, specifically regarding verb tenses and article usage, and aim to vary your sentence structure to include more complex forms.
