Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response successfully identifies the main features of the data, including the highest value exports and the trends in growth and decline. You have effectively integrated the information from both the bar chart and the table. The overview is clear and highlights the most significant trends, such as the growth in textiles and the decline in gems and jewellery. To reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are accurate; for instance, you mentioned petroleum increased to 63 billion, but the chart shows 63.2 billion. Precision in reporting figures is essential for Task 1.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, body paragraphs, and a concluding summary. The progression of ideas is clear, moving from general trends to specific category details. You use some cohesive devices like 'similarly' and 'whereas' to link ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly repetitive. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different aspects of the data. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the transition between sentences feels more natural and less formulaic.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'illustrates', 'export value', and 'noticeable growth'. There are some spelling errors, such as 'TEXILES' and 'BILLIO', which are distracting. Additionally, some word choices are slightly awkward, such as 'was only decline in export category' (should be 'was the only category to decline'). While you have enough vocabulary to convey your meaning, the range is somewhat limited, and the errors in spelling and collocation prevent a higher score. Focus on proofreading to catch these minor slips.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'Textiles shows' (subject-verb agreement), 'remained almost same' (missing article), and 'export value roses' (incorrect verb form). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods throughout the text. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to lower the score. You should focus on subject-verb agreement, correct verb tense usage, and basic punctuation rules to improve your accuracy.
