Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response identifies the main features, such as the dominance of petroleum products and the relative performance of other categories. However, the analysis is hampered by significant inaccuracies in reporting the data. For instance, the student claims petroleum products were approximately $60 billion in 2015, whereas the chart shows $60 billion for 2015, but the description of other categories is often vague or imprecise. The attempt to compare 2015 and 2016 is present, but the lack of clear data referencing makes it difficult to follow. The overview is present but lacks clarity due to grammatical issues. To improve, ensure that data points are accurately transcribed and that comparisons are explicitly linked to the provided figures.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is frequently interrupted by awkward phrasing and mechanical errors. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Firstly' and 'In constant' (likely intended as 'In contrast'), but they are often misused or grammatically incorrect. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to track which category or year is being discussed. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks the necessary cohesion to guide the reader smoothly through the data. Improving the use of transition signals and ensuring clear subject-verb agreement would significantly enhance the coherence of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, with several spelling errors such as 'conists', 'earings', 'engineerd', 'repectively', and 'Textils'. The student relies on basic terminology and struggles to use precise language to describe trends (e.g., 'gradually increases' or 'slightly fall down'). There is a lack of variety in the language used to describe data, and the misuse of terms like 'In constant' instead of 'In contrast' indicates a lack of control over academic vocabulary. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on learning specific collocations for describing trends and improving spelling accuracy.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede clarity. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The bar graph represent', 'petroleum products has'), missing articles, and incorrect tense usage. Sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at complex sentences are often marred by errors in punctuation and word order. For example, 'Textils will takes place bottom' is grammatically incorrect. The frequent errors in basic sentence construction and the lack of control over complex structures limit the score in this criterion. Focusing on fundamental grammar rules, particularly verb forms and sentence structure, is essential.
