Student answer (Band 5.0)

This country clearly in the year 2015 had less percentage in everything except gems and jewellery to compare with the year 2016 , its like it had petroleum products 60 billions ,in 2015 which is a bit less than it on the year 2016 ,also in engineered goods ,exactly 2015 ,maybe like 55 to 57 percentage ,while in 2016 it reached more than 60 billions ,gems and jewellery it had in 2015 more than 2016 ,in 2015 it was close enough to 55 billions ,but in 2016 it barely reached 40 .agricultural products in the two years are too close ,in 2015 maybe 31-32 billions ,and in 2016 32-33 ,and finally ,in the textiles in 2015 it reached 25-27 billions ,and in 2016 it reached more than 30 from 31-32.

In these two years the percentage change in values wasnt too different ,only in some things ,like in petroleum products it was up with 3% ,in engineered goods up with 8.5% ,gems and jewellery down with 5.18% ,agricultural products up with 0.81%,textiles up with 15.24%.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to cover the data, but it lacks a clear overview or summary of the main trends. The description of the data is often imprecise, using vague language like 'maybe like 55 to 57' or 'close enough to 55', which fails to report the figures accurately from the chart. Furthermore, the response lacks a formal structure, such as an introduction or a concluding summary of the main features. While it addresses both the chart and the table, the lack of analytical comparison and the informal, conversational tone prevent it from reaching a higher band. To improve, focus on identifying the most significant changes and grouping data logically rather than listing every category individually.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is divided into two paragraphs, but the internal flow is weak. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link ideas, and the sentences are often run-on or poorly punctuated, making the progression of information feel disjointed. For example, the transition between describing the chart and the table is abrupt. The use of referencing is also limited, and the overall structure feels more like a list of observations than a cohesive report. To improve, use linking words such as 'in contrast', 'furthermore', or 'consequently' to connect sentences and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, logical focus.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'things', 'reached', and 'close'. There is little attempt to use precise terminology related to data reporting, such as 'fluctuated', 'experienced a growth of', or 'remained stable'. The phrasing is often informal and imprecise, which hinders the professional tone required for an Academic Task 1 report. To improve, incorporate a wider range of vocabulary specifically for describing trends and statistical changes, and avoid conversational fillers like 'its like it had'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement, tense consistency, and sentence structure. Many sentences are run-on, lacking proper punctuation, such as 'in 2015 it was close enough to 55 billions ,but in 2016 it barely reached 40'. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the reliance on simple, error-prone sentences limits the score. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with spaces placed incorrectly before commas. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and ensuring that each sentence has a clear subject and verb, while also attempting to vary sentence length and complexity.
