The chart below shows the value of one country’s exports in various categories during 2015 and 2016. The table shows the percentage change in each category of exports in 2016 compared with 2015.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The bar charts and table illustrate the value of country's export earnings across five different product category is petroleum products, engineered goods, gems and jewellery, agricultural products and textiles during the 2015 and 2016 and also, with the percentage change for each category.

Overall, petroleum products and engineered goods are highest export earnings in both the years. Most sectors grew over a period, with textiles experiencing the highest percentage growth, while gems and jewellery was the only category that declined.

Petroleum products remained the top export, rising by 3% from around $60 billions to over $62 billions. Similarly, engineered goods saw a significant rise of 8.5%, increasing from approximately $57 billions in 2015 to around $61 billions in 2016.

Textiles showed the fastest growth, jumping by 15.24% from about $26 billions to over $30 billions. In contract, agricultural products stayed relatively stable with a minor increase of 0.81%, from around $31 billions. Gems and jewellery fell by 5.18%, dropping from $43 billions to $41 billions.
