Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to address the task by summarizing the provided data. However, the analysis is superficial and lacks a clear overview of the main trends. While the student identifies the highest and lowest categories, the description of the data is repetitive and lacks the necessary synthesis required for a high band score. The report fails to effectively compare the categories in a meaningful way, relying instead on a list-like presentation of figures. Furthermore, the interpretation of the data is slightly confusing, as the student describes the percentages as 'earning ratios' rather than percentage changes, which misrepresents the nature of the data provided in the table.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The introduction is repetitive, and the body paragraphs lack clear topic sentences or a cohesive flow. Cohesive devices are used in a very mechanical and limited way, such as the repetitive use of 'between 2015 and 2016' and 'the percentage change'. There is a lack of variety in linking words, which makes the text feel disjointed. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the transition between the general overview and the specific data points is abrupt, hindering the overall readability of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. The student frequently uses basic terms like 'increased', 'earned', and 'ratio', often in contexts where they are not entirely accurate. There are several spelling errors, such as 'betwwen', 'exportd', 'icreased', and 'peteoleum', which distract the reader. The student struggles to use precise terminology related to data description, such as 'percentage change' or 'growth', instead opting for phrases like 'most least'. To improve, the student needs to expand their range of vocabulary to include more sophisticated synonyms and ensure accurate spelling and word choice.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The grammatical range is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentence structures. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally impede clarity, such as 'The charts illustrates' (subject-verb agreement) and 'most least' (incorrect superlative usage). The use of articles and prepositions is inconsistent throughout the text. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic sentence construction prevents the response from reaching a higher band. The student should focus on mastering subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and building more complex, error-free sentences.
