The chart below shows the value of one country’s exports in various categories during 2015 and 2016. The table shows the percentage change in each category of exports in 2016 compared with 2015.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.5)
The diagram illustrates the amount of exports in a country in different categories in 2015 and 2016. The table explains and compares the percentage change in each category of export in both years.
Overall, it is clear from the chart that petroleum products exported in both years were the highest followed by engineered good, while textiles amounted the least of exports in both years.
In 2015, the petroleum products exported stood at $60 billion, by 2016 it saw an increase by 3%. Engineered goods stood at about $56 billion in 2015 but increased with by 8.5% in 2016. Furthermore, Gems and jewellery exported amounted to about $42 billion in 2015 but it saw decline by 5.18% in 2016.
The amount generated in exporting Agricultural products in 2015 were a little above $30 billion and by 2016 it saw a minimal increase of 0.81%. Lastly, textiles product were the least in the value of exports to one county in 2015 at around $25 billion, but by 2016 it surged to about $31 billion which is approximately 15.24% increase.
