Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response attempts to address the task but fails to provide a clear, accurate summary of the data. While it mentions petroleum and gems, the analysis is superficial and contains factual inaccuracies regarding the data (e.g., claiming all products rose except gems, which contradicts the provided table). The overview is vague and lacks a clear focus on the main trends or significant comparisons. The response relies on general statements rather than specific data points from the chart, failing to highlight the key features required for an Academic Task 1 response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical (e.g., 'As you see', 'If we saw'). There is a lack of clear referencing, and the connection between the chart and the table is not well-integrated. The flow of ideas is disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the two years effectively.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, often relying on basic terms like 'products', 'value', and 'percentage'. There are several spelling errors ('discribes', 'durring', 'counrty', 'vale') and word choice issues ('gaining good profit', 'must say that'). The range is insufficient to convey the data with the necessary precision required for an academic report. The student struggles to use appropriate terminology for describing trends or statistical changes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement ('table explain's', 'products percentage... rise'), punctuation errors, and incorrect sentence structures. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the errors often impede clarity. The misuse of tenses and articles is consistent throughout the text. While the meaning is generally discernible, the high frequency of errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band.
