Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to address the task but fails to provide a clear or accurate summary of the data. While it mentions several categories, the reporting of figures is inconsistent and often inaccurate compared to the provided chart. For instance, the claim that agricultural products remained the same is not supported by the data, and the description of petroleum products is confusing. The overview is very weak, failing to highlight the most significant trends or differences between the two years. The response lacks a clear analytical focus, making it difficult for the reader to grasp the main features of the data provided.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused, such as 'Likewise' at the start of the second sentence, which does not fit the context. The transition between ideas is abrupt, and the referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the flow of information regarding textile earnings is disjointed. While there is an attempt to use linking words like 'First and foremost' and 'Additionally', they do not effectively connect the ideas in a way that creates a smooth, coherent narrative.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'sixty dollar billions' instead of 'sixty billion dollars' and 'price also fluctuated' when referring to export categories. The student struggles to use precise terminology to describe trends, relying on basic verbs like 'decline' or 'rise' without the necessary adverbs or accurate noun phrases. The phrasing is often unnatural, which hinders the clarity of the report. To improve, the student needs to focus on using specific terminology for data reporting and ensuring correct word order.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('agricultural products were remain same'), incorrect tense usage, and awkward sentence structures. Punctuation is also problematic, with misplaced commas and periods, such as the fragment 'their export earnings are declined in year 2015 however earning gradually increases'. The range of structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences with some errors in basic grammar. The student needs to focus on sentence construction and proofreading to eliminate basic errors in articles, prepositions, and verb forms.
