Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the data, including the categories and the trends between 2015 and 2016. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. While you mention the percentage changes, the connection between the absolute values (the chart) and the percentage changes (the table) is not fully integrated. For example, you state that textile exports increased significantly, but you do not reference the specific values provided in the chart to support this. The overview is present but lacks a clear synthesis of the overall trends. To improve, ensure you explicitly compare the categories rather than just listing them, and provide a more cohesive summary of the data provided.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inaccurate. For instance, the transition 'On the other hand' is used to introduce the decrease in gems and jewellery, but the flow between sentences within paragraphs is often disjointed. Some sentences, such as 'Textile had significantly increased in exports in one year its largest increase in a year', lack proper punctuation and linking words to connect the ideas logically. Improving the use of referencing (e.g., 'the former', 'the latter') and transition signals would enhance the overall flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision required for a higher band. You use basic verbs like 'increased' and 'decreased' repeatedly. There are also some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'the largest went up' and 'it’s only item this exports decreased in'. These errors occasionally make the meaning slightly unclear. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more varied and precise vocabulary related to data description, such as 'witnessed a marginal rise', 'experienced a sharp decline', or 'fluctuated'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Gems and jewellery exports is only drop'), missing articles (e.g., 'in one year its largest increase'), and incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'have rose'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of periods and commas, which affects the readability of the sentences. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the response from reaching a higher band score.
