Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features and making relevant comparisons. You successfully highlighted the highest and lowest categories and noted the unique stability of agricultural products. However, the overview is slightly weak; it focuses on specific details rather than summarizing the broader trends effectively. Additionally, there are some inaccuracies in data reporting, such as stating petroleum products had the 'second lowest' percentage change when the data shows it was actually the second highest. To improve, ensure that your overview clearly synthesizes the main trends and double-check your data transcription to ensure accuracy when comparing figures.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear paragraph structure. Each paragraph focuses on a specific category or group of data, which helps the reader follow your points. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Similarly', 'In 2015', and 'This also applied to', to link ideas. However, the use of some transitions is a bit mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the comparison between textiles and agriculture is confusingly phrased. Improving the variety of cohesive devices and ensuring that comparisons are explicitly linked to the data would elevate your score.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion changes', 'significant change', and 'trends'. However, there are some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'Germs and jewellery' (likely a typo for Gems) and 'as to textiles' which is not the standard way to introduce a comparison. Furthermore, the phrasing 'percentage change in values' is repeated frequently, which limits the flexibility of your lexical range. To achieve a higher band, try to vary your vocabulary by using synonyms and ensuring that technical terms are spelled correctly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('Petroleum products was seen', 'textiles shows'), incorrect preposition usage ('in the both years'), and awkward phrasing ('as to textiles which recorded the least in one of the year'). Additionally, there are punctuation and formatting errors, such as placing the dollar sign after the number (e.g., '61$ billion'). While these errors rarely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent formatting will improve your accuracy.
