Student answer (Band 7.5)
The bar chart and table illustrate export earnings across five product categories for a single nation in 2015 and 2016, along with the percentage change in export values between these two years.
Overall, petroleum products and engineered goods were the highest earnings categories in both years, while textiles experienced the most significant proportional growth. Gems and jewellery was the only category to register a decline in export value.
Petroleum products remained the largest export sector, rising slightly from approximately $60 billion in 2015 to nearly $63 billion in 2016, representing a 3% increase. Engineered goods recorded the second-highest figures, growing by 8.5% from around $56 billion to over $61 billion.
In contrast, gems and jewellery dropped by 5.18%, falling from roughly $43 billion to $41 billion. Agricultural products showed minimal variation, increasing by 0.81% while holding steady at around $31 billion in both years. Finally, textiles saw the largest relative surge, rising 15.24% from $25 billion in 2015 to over $31 billion in 2016, matching the export value of agricultural products by the end of the period.

The data is accurately reported, and the comparison between the two years is clear. The overview is well-crafted, providing a concise summary of the trends without simply listing data. You have made relevant comparisons, such as noting that textiles matched the export value of agricultural products by 2016. The information is well-selected and supports the summary effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The response is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a distinct focus: the introduction, the overview, and the detailed body paragraphs. Cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'Finally', and 'while' are used effectively to link ideas and guide the reader through the data. The vocabulary is well-suited to the task requirements.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5
The response exhibits a wide range of grammatical structures, including complex sentences and participial phrases (e.g., 'rising slightly from...'). The majority of sentences are error-free, and the control over punctuation and tense is excellent. The use of comparative structures is accurate and adds to the clarity of the report. There are no noticeable grammatical errors that impede communication. The writing is fluent and demonstrates a high level of accuracy throughout the response, meeting the requirements for a high band score.
