Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully identified the main features of the data and provided a clear overview. You included all categories and made relevant comparisons between the two years. The data points are accurate, and the inclusion of percentage changes adds necessary detail. To reach a higher band, ensure that your overview is more concise and avoid listing every single category in the introduction or overview, as this can feel slightly mechanical. Instead, focus on the most significant trends, such as the overall growth in most sectors versus the decline in gems and jewelry. Your ability to synthesize the information is good, and you have met all requirements of the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'Similarly', 'In addition to this', and 'On the other hand' to guide the reader through the data. However, some transitions are slightly repetitive or mechanical. For instance, the phrase 'in which' is used frequently to introduce clauses, which can make the flow feel a bit rigid. Improving the variety of your linking phrases and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus will help improve the overall flow and cohesion of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'incline', 'decline', 'growth', and 'skyrocketed'. While these are effective, some word choices are slightly imprecise or repetitive. For example, using 'incline' as a noun to describe a rise is less common than 'increase' or 'growth'. Additionally, 'skyrocketed' is a strong word, but ensure it is used appropriately for the data provided. You have a good grasp of terminology related to exports, and your spelling is accurate throughout the text. Expanding your range of synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' will further enhance your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are some minor grammatical errors, such as 'the value of country's export' (should be 'a country's exports') and 'export earnings on 4 categories' (should be 'in 4 categories'). Additionally, the phrase 'simultaneously in which' is slightly awkward and grammatically imprecise. Despite these slips, your meaning is always clear, and the errors do not impede communication. To improve, focus on article usage and prepositional accuracy, and try to incorporate a wider variety of complex sentence structures to demonstrate greater control.
