Student answer (Band 6.5)
The following bar graph and table illustrate the value of country's export in different categories while highlighting their percentage change in value during 2015 and 2016.
Overall, export earnings on 4 categories have increased in 2016 as compared to 2015 which are petroleum products, engineered goods, agricultural products and textiles while the export earnings on gems and jewelry have seen a slight decline over the year.
Detailed analysis of the graph showcases the incline in petroleum products from 61 billion dollars to 63 billion dollars which had increased its value by 3%. Similarly, engineered goods and agricultural products both had seen a nominal incline reaching 62 billion dollars and 33 billion dollars simultaneously in which engineered goods value was increased by 8.5% and agricultural products value was increased by 0.81% respectively. In addition to this, textiles had seen the largest growth in export earnings from 26 billion dollars to 32 billion dollars and its value skyrocketed by 15.24% overall.
On the other hand, gems and jewelry was the only category that had a decrease in export earnings throughout the year in which earnings declined from 43 billion dollars to 41 billion dollars while their value dropped by 5.18% between the years.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task. You have provided a clear overview of the trends and included specific data points for all categories in both 2015 and 2016. The comparison between the categories is well-handled, and the inclusion of percentage changes adds necessary detail. The main features are clearly identified, such as the growth in textiles and the decline in gems and jewelry. To reach a higher band, ensure that the distinction between the bar chart (values) and the table (percentage change) is even more explicitly linked in your analysis to demonstrate a more sophisticated synthesis of the provided data.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. The progression of ideas is smooth, and you have used cohesive devices such as 'Similarly', 'In addition to this', and 'On the other hand' effectively to guide the reader. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the increasing categories from the decreasing one. The referencing is generally clear, though some transitions could be slightly more varied to avoid a mechanical feel. Overall, the structure is coherent and easy to follow throughout the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey information with precision. Phrases like 'export earnings', 'nominal incline', and 'skyrocketed' are used effectively. However, there are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'incline in petroleum products' (a rise/increase is more natural) and 'simultaneously' (which implies at the same time, whereas 'respectively' would have been more accurate for the list of figures). While the vocabulary is adequate for the task, incorporating more varied academic collocations would elevate the response to a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the majority of sentences are error-free, there are some grammatical slips, such as 'illustrate the value of country's export' (missing an article: 'a country's exports') and 'both had seen' (the past simple 'saw' would be more appropriate here). Punctuation is generally sound, but there are minor issues with preposition usage and article consistency. The grammatical control is good, and errors do not impede communication, but more consistent accuracy in complex structures is needed for a higher score.
